AMC and AMC+ have officially ordered a television series based on the 1991 cult classic film Point Break. The co-production between AMC Studios and StudioCanal is slated to begin filming its first eight-episode season in early 2027.

The new series will pick up more than three decades after the events of the original movie, introducing a new heist crew that emulates the iconic 'Ex-Presidents' from the film. The FBI will reportedly enlist an undercover surfer with a troubled past to infiltrate this new group.

Dave Kalstein, known for his work on Butterfly, and Christopher C. Rogers of Sugar will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers for the series. Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson of Alcon, alongside Ben Roberts and Julia Cohen, are also attached as executive producers.

Details regarding the cast and specific plot points remain undisclosed, and it is currently unclear if original stars Keanu Reeves or Patrick Swayze will be involved in any capacity. The film, directed by Kathryn Bigelow, starred Reeves as FBI agent Johnny Utah and Swayze as surfer and bank robber Bodhi.

Point Break has maintained its cult status since its 1991 release. A previous remake of the film, starring Luke Bracey and Edgar Ramirez, was released in 2015 to generally unfavorable reviews. The original 1991 film, however, was celebrated for its blend of action and surfing, earning an 8/10 review from IGN, which described it as "fun" and offering "a lot of ground."
