The Pokémon franchise is expanding its reach on Disney Plus with a new stop-motion animated series slated for a 2027 debut. Titled "Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu," the show will premiere on Disney XD and be available exclusively on Disney Plus. The announcement was made by Disney and The Pokémon Company, accompanied by the release of a new trailer.

This series marks a significant collaboration with Aardman Animations, the studio behind acclaimed works such as "Wallace & Gromit," "Chicken Run," and "Shaun the Sheep." "Pokémon Tales" will follow the adventures of Sirfetch'd and Pichu as they explore the Galar region, the setting of "Pokémon Sword and Shield." According to the official synopsis, the duo will embark on a journey to help and protect other Pokémon, encountering perils, forging friendships, and navigating rivalries along the way.

The partnership between Aardman and The Pokémon Company was initially revealed in 2024. Sean Clarke, managing director of Aardman, expressed excitement about blending Pokémon's global appeal with Aardman's signature craft, character, and comedic storytelling. He noted the shared emphasis on heritage and attention to detail between both entities.

"Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu" is not the only Pokémon content heading to Disney Plus. "Pokémon the Series: The Beginning," the original anime series, is now streaming on the platform in the U.S. and select international markets. Additionally, later seasons of the anime, including "Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon" through "Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon Ultra Legends," are available via Hulu.

Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, highlighted Pokémon's enduring relevance for both long-time fans and new audiences. She stated that the new stop-motion series, with Aardman's artistry, offers a fresh perspective on the beloved world, complementing the inclusion of "Pokémon the Beginning."

Phil Rynda, director of original animation for Pokémon, added that the series' focus on adventure and heroism from the Pokémon's perspective, brought to life by Aardman's filmmakers, would be captivating. He specifically mentioned that Aardman has recreated the Galar region in a way that immerses viewers in its environment.
