The Pokémon Company is expanding its stop-motion content with a new series titled Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu. This upcoming show is a collaboration with Aardman Animations, the acclaimed studio recognized for its work on Wallace & Gromit.

The series was revealed during a panel at the Pokémon XP convention in San Francisco. Representatives from Aardman Animations showcased puppets from the show and discussed the intricate stop-motion animation process. A teaser trailer featuring the main characters, a Sirfetch'd described as a "knight" and Pichu as its "squire," was also presented.

Pokémon Tales will focus on the adventures of these two characters, with the narrative told entirely from the perspective of the Pokémon. The show will not feature human dialogue, relying instead on the Pokémon speaking their own names and communicating their story through animation. This approach requires extensive detail in puppetry and movement.

According to the production team, the stop-motion process is exceptionally time-consuming, with approximately 13 seconds of animation potentially taking a full week to complete. This meticulous effort contributes to the years-long production timeline for such series.

The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu is slated to premiere on Disney+ in 2027. This announcement follows the success of another stop-motion Pokémon series, Pokémon Concierge. The new show aims to capture a unique visual style and storytelling method through its dedicated animation techniques.
