Amazon MGM Studios and Alliance Home Entertainment have set August 11 as the release date for the physical media debut of Project Hail Mary, the popular science fiction film. The movie will be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
This initial release will feature several bonus materials, including five deleted scenes, audio commentary from directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and a featurette titled “Earth’s Favorite Eridian.” It is currently priced at $27.96 on Amazon.
A second physical edition is planned for October 13, timed for the holiday season. This version will be a 3-disc SteelBook giftset, offering additional features and a collectible booklet, with a price point of $49.99. Pre-orders for both the August and October releases are now open.
Project Hail Mary is currently streaming exclusively on MGM Plus. While not yet confirmed, the film may also become available on Prime Video and potentially Netflix in the future, given past content-sharing partnerships between the platforms.
The film has garnered significant attention this year, ranking third in worldwide and domestic box office gross for 2026. It has received widespread critical and audience acclaim, boasting a 94% critic score and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers have praised its ambitious scope, strong performances, and optimistic take on science fiction.
The story centers on Ryland Grace, a former middle school teacher who finds himself on a mission to save Earth from a cosmic threat. The narrative also features an alien companion.
Project Hail Mary is the second successful adaptation of an Andy Weir novel, following the 2015 film The Martian. Directors Lord and Miller have also indicated their continued intention to adapt Weir's book Artemis, which has faced development challenges.
