Director Brad Bird has stated that a sequel to Pixar's 2007 animated film Ratatouille is unlikely to ever be made. Bird, who directed the original film, expressed his belief that Remy the rat's story has been fully told.

In a conversation with Collider, Bird indicated that Pixar has made attempts to gauge his interest in a sequel, but he remains firm in his decision to not revisit the world of Ratatouille. "No, I don't," Bird stated when asked about the possibility of Ratatouille 2. "They've made little feints towards that to see how I would react. They'll, like, crack a joke, but the joke will be a little bit serious, like, 'Would you?' And I'm like, 'No, we told that story.'"

Bird drew parallels to his 1999 film The Iron Giant, noting that fans often suggest sequels for films that resonate, even if the original did not achieve initial success. He feels that the narrative for The Iron Giant, like Ratatouille, is complete and offers no further avenues for exploration.

However, Bird is more open to continuing his work on The Incredibles franchise. While Pixar is developing The Incredibles 3 with Elemental director Peter Sohn, Bird is attached to pen the script. He also voiced the character of Edna Mode in the previous films and suggested he might return for the upcoming sequel.

The confirmation that Ratatouille 2 will not be produced comes as Pixar continues to expand existing franchises, such as the recent release of Toy Story 5. Some critics and audiences have questioned whether continuing such long-running series serves the original stories well, with Toy Story 3 often cited as a fitting conclusion.

While Disney and Pixar could potentially move forward with a Ratatouille sequel without Bird's involvement, doing so might risk compromising the quality of the film and potentially straining their relationship with the director.
