The forthcoming Resident Evil movie, directed by Zach Cregger, is set to feature a distinctive popcorn bucket designed to resemble an organ transplant bag. This unsettling collectible was revealed by exhibitors AMC Theatres and Regal Cinemas, who announced the sale of tickets for the video game adaptation.
AMC Theatres described the offering with the tagline, “One Job: Deliver the Popcorn! See RESIDENT EVIL and purchase our concession collectible starting 9/17, available in theatres only while supplies last.” Regal Cinemas similarly promoted the item, stating, “Need a transplant? We recommend this popcorn bag 🫀🍿 Get your hands on the Resident Evil Organ Transplant Popcorn Bag when you see Resident Evil at Regal.”
The popcorn bag's release coincides with the unveiling of a new poster for the film. Director Zach Cregger has spoken about the production, sharing anecdotes such as actor Austin Abrams nearly experiencing a near-death incident during a zombie scene. Cregger also acknowledged taking creative liberties with the source material, noting the inclusion of elements like snow and iPhones, which are not present in the original Resident Evil 2 game that inspired the movie.
Cregger has confirmed that the film incorporates first-person sequences and will feature references to the sinister Umbrella Corporation. Resident Evil is scheduled to premiere in theaters on September 18 and is anticipated to achieve the largest opening weekend within the franchise's cinematic history.
