Christopher Nolan's film adaptation of the ancient Greek epic, "The Odyssey," has officially claimed the title of the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, surpassing Ryan Reynolds' own "Deadpool & Wolverine." The film crossed the $1 billion mark earlier this month and has since grossed approximately $1.34 billion, making it the top earner in Nolan's filmography and one of the year's biggest releases.

"Deadpool & Wolverine" concluded its theatrical run with a total of $1.338 billion. "The Odyssey" continues its screenings, with extended 70MM IMAX showings scheduled through September 16.

Ryan Reynolds acknowledged the achievement with a humorous social media post. The video montage featured clips from both films, juxtaposing "The Odyssey's" protagonist's journey with a chaotic fight scene between Deadpool and Wolverine inside a minivan. Reynolds captioned the post, "Congratulations to the entire cast and crew of The Odyssey for becoming the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time. That is one helluva car."

This cinematic success marks a strong summer for movie releases, with anticipation building for upcoming films like "Dune Part 3" and "Avengers: Doomsday" slated for December. "Coyote vs Acme" is also set for a theatrical debut on August 28, having already garnered critical acclaim.

Reynolds and Hugh Jackman may also return to the big screen this winter, with their recent appearances in "Doomsday" marketing hinting at future collaborations. Both actors were featured in a humorous scene during Marvel's D23 showcase in August, following Reynolds' appearance at San Diego Comic Con's Hall H panel in July.
