Neon has unveiled the first teaser for Luca Guadagnino's Sam Altman biopic, Artificial, following Amazon's abrupt withdrawal of support for the project earlier this year. The teaser offers a glimpse into the life of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, with a tone that suggests a leaning towards horror.
The film stars Andrew Garfield as Altman, who is seen in dark corridors and a blue-lit room filled with guns. His character speaks lines such as "We opened Pandora's box together" and "We get to be the ones to shepherd people into this new world." Monica Barbaro appears as former OpenAI executive Mira Murati. The cast also includes Cooper Hoffman, Yura Borisov, Jason Schwartzman, Mark Rylance, and Chris O'Dowd. Ike Barinholtz is set to portray Elon Musk, with quick flashes of his character appearing in the trailer.
Artificial faced an uncertain future when Amazon ended its involvement in June 2026, just three months prior to the teaser's release. This decision came after multiple private test screenings and only a few months after Amazon committed a significant $50 billion investment in OpenAI. Despite Amazon's departure, Neon has taken over distribution, and Artificial is slated to premiere in select theaters on Christmas Day 2026.
This development follows OpenAI's earlier decision to shut down its generative AI app Sora this year.
