Fans eager for a third season of the popular anime Solo Leveling will first see a feature film titled Solo Leveling: Beyond the System. The movie is now in production and will serve as a direct continuation of season two, Arise from the Shadows, picking up immediately after the anime's last episode. The announcement was made at Anime Expo 2026 by Crunchyroll and Aniplex.
This theatrical release comes after months of speculation regarding the timeline for Solo Leveling season 3, with some predicting a 2027 or even 2028 arrival. The film offers fans a return to Sung Jinwoo's story while capitalizing on the anime's popularity at the box office. The success of Demon Slayer's recent theatrical run has demonstrated that anime movies are no longer niche events but major draws, and Solo Leveling has cultivated a significant fanbase over the past two years.
The anime adaptation, based on Chugong's Korean web novel and webtoon, follows Sung Jinwoo, initially the world's weakest Hunter, who gains the ability to level up indefinitely. The series blends underdog fantasy with RPG mechanics, dungeon raids, and increasingly challenging battles.
Both the initial 2024 debut season and its 2025 follow-up were animated by A-1 Pictures, which is returning for Beyond the System. The film is being produced by Aniplex, Netmarble, D&C Media, Kakao Piccoma, and Crunchyroll. While Crunchyroll and Aniplex have not provided a release date or further story details, the movie is expected to be the next major anime theatrical event, rather than a replacement for a future season 3.
