Sonic the Hedgehog is set to make a surprise appearance in an upcoming trailer for The Angry Birds Movie 3, Paramount Pictures revealed. The iconic blue blur will join the fast-talking bird Chuck in a brief scene, hinting at a crossover between the two popular franchises.

This unexpected collaboration stems from Sega's acquisition of Rovio, the Finnish company behind the Angry Birds games, in 2023 for $775 million. Since the acquisition, Sonic and the Angry Birds have appeared together in several mobile games, including Angry Birds 2, Angry Birds Friends, Sonic Dash, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

The cameo appears in the second trailer for The Angry Birds Movie 3, which features Chuck, voiced by Josh Gad, racing against Sonic. While the exact nature of Sonic's inclusion in the film is not yet clear, it is speculated that it could be a dream sequence, hallucination, or simply a moment of corporate synergy. The trailer also includes moments of projectile vomiting and a focus on fatherhood for the protagonist, Red.

The Angry Birds Movie 3 is scheduled to release in theaters on December 23. The film's voice cast includes Jason Sudeikis as Red, Josh Gad as Chuck, Emma Myers, Rachel Bloom, Walker Scobell, Danny McBride, Marcello Hernández, Tim Robinson, Anna Cathcart, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Nikki Glaser, Jimmy "MrBeast" Donaldson, Salish Matter, Psalm West, Sam Richardson, James Austin Johnson, Lily James, and Keke Palmer. The plot synopsis indicates that Red will face the challenge of fatherhood while defending the world from the pigs.

This appearance comes ahead of the next live-action Sonic movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which is slated for release on March 19, 2027. Paramount also has another, currently unnamed, Sonic spinoff film planned for December 22, 2028.
