Spider-Man: Brand New Day has made a significant impact at the global box office, raking in $927 million during its opening weekend. Domestically, the film secured $355 million, accounting for 38.3% of the total weekend earnings. Starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, the movie delivered the biggest opening of 2026 to date, surpassing other major releases like The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
The film opened in 4,487 theaters across the United States. While this marks a strong start for the first Spider-Man film since 2021's No Way Home, it fell just short of the $357 million opening weekend record set by 2019's Avengers: Endgame. However, Brand New Day comfortably outpaced The Odyssey, another film featuring stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jon Bernthal.
Critically, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has received a "generally favorable" metascore of 66 on Metacritic, based on 56 reviews. The film also captured the attention of renowned game director Hideo Kojima, who shared his thoughts on social media. Kojima highlighted the movie's exploration of loneliness and isolation, noting, "A lonely hero. A lonely Spidey. A lonely Peter Parker." He found the approach to be "fresh" and expressed enjoyment for the "genuine, heartfelt filmmaking." Kojima further commented that in a blockbuster franchise that "cannot afford to fail," the film tests the meaning of its title.
Beyond its thematic depth, the movie incorporates elements inspired by Insomniac's Spider-Man video game series. The "Fresh Start" suit, which debuted in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 last month, made an appearance, and director Destin Daniel Cretton revealed that the game's dynamic combat finishers influenced the film's action sequences.
