Netflix is expanding the Stranger Things universe with a new live-action series titled Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure, slated for a 2028 release. The announcement was made on Nov. 6, an annual celebration known as Stranger Things Day.

This new series will venture to a different location and time period, introducing a fresh cast of characters who will confront supernatural threats. The official teaser trailer for Other Worlds suggests a 1950s setting in the fictional town of Marion, Nevada. The footage shows a bicycle outside a restricted area at night, with a town or military base visible in the distance. The scene is punctuated by thunder and a visual anomaly in the sky, accompanied by the doo-wop song "Sh-Boom" playing from the bicycle's radio. This song was notably featured in a flashback in the final season of the original series.

Kate Trefry, who served as an executive producer on Stranger Things and wrote the prequel stage play Stranger Things: The First Shadow, is co-creating the new series alongside original creators The Duffer Brothers. Joe Wright, known for directing films like Atonement and Pan, is attached to direct. The Duffer Brothers previously confirmed their significant involvement with a live-action spinoff, which has been in development since at least 2022. Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2028.
