A new trailer for Suikoden: The Anime has been unveiled, offering a glimpse into the animated adaptation of the beloved 1998 role-playing game. The trailer debuted over the weekend at Anime Expo, highlighting fluid animation and announcing the show's theme song and several new voice actors.
The minute-long trailer focuses on early moments from the game, depicting the main characters Riliu and Jowy sharing a scene under a night sky before engaging in a battle and traversing an environment. The animation blends 2D and 3D techniques. The opening theme will be an original song titled "Kanaashimi Sae Otonobite" by amazarashi.
Suikoden: The Anime is scheduled to premiere in Japan in October. Prior to the full release, Konami will screen the first three episodes as a compilation film in 10 theaters across Japan starting August 21. International release details have not yet been announced.
New additions to the cast include Jin Yamanoi as Agares Bligh, Miyuko Sawashiro as Anabelle, and Kodai Sakai as Jess. These actors join Toshiki Kumagai as Riliu and Shimba Tsuchiya as Jowy, among others previously announced. The production team includes chief director YUZO, series composer Michihiro Tsuchiya, animation character designer Ryo Yamauchi, and composer Koji Nakamura.
Suikoden 2 is widely regarded as the pinnacle of Konami's RPG series and was recently remastered in 2025 alongside the first game. The anime's official description outlines the story: Two young boys, the hero Riliu and his close friend Jowy, were part of a youth brigade for their homeland, the Highland Kingdom. United by shared dreams, their lives are irrevocably altered by the outbreak of war. As fate intervenes, these young boys find themselves wielding immense power amidst the conflict. With the "108 stars" shining on the horizon, they pursue their own beliefs in the face of an uncertain future. The mention of the "108 stars" refers to the large number of recruitable characters in the game, suggesting a potentially ambitious adaptation.
