Supergirl, the latest entry in James Gunn's burgeoning DC Universe, will not feature a post-credits scene, director Craig Gillespie has confirmed. This marks a departure from the franchise's recent trend of including extra content after the credits roll, a practice popularized by Marvel Studios.

Gillespie explained that while an earlier version of the film did include a post-credits sequence, the decision was made to integrate it into the movie's main narrative. The scene in question depicts Supergirl, played by Milly Alcock, reuniting with her cousin Superman, portrayed by David Corenswet, as she prepares to settle into her role as a superhero on Earth.

"There was a discussion, but ultimately it was really the scene with Superman," Gillespie told Polygon. "Where that landed, it felt better to be part of the film."

The ending of Supergirl sees the titular hero and her dog Krypto returning to Metropolis. Having dealt with Krem of the Yellow Hills and liberated his captives, Supergirl appears ready to recommit to fighting crime. Alcock's Supergirl is confirmed to appear in Gunn's upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow, which will focus on Superman and Lex Luthor facing off against Brainiac.

Executive producer Lars P. Winther further elaborated on Supergirl's future within the DCU, stating that after Man of Tomorrow, another film is planned where she will play a significant role. "Without giving too much away, this movie ends a particular way, and you see where she’s going to end up," Winther said. "She’s done her wild ways, and now she’s going to try to get back in with her cousin and be more on Earth again. That’s where she is in Man of Tomorrow. It’s all more Earth-based. So we have Man of Tomorrow, and we already know what the next movie’s going to be after that, and she’s a big part of that."

While the specific details of this subsequent film remain undisclosed, the involvement of Supergirl's writer, Ana Nogueira, in a Wonder Woman script has sparked speculation about a potential superheroine team-up. For now, audiences can see Supergirl in theaters, with Man of Tomorrow expected to arrive in 2027.
