Nintendo has revealed the official title for its upcoming live-action movie based on The Legend of Zelda franchise: The Legend of Zelda. Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto shared the news, noting the deliberate simplicity of the title and suggesting its meaning will become clear upon viewing the film. The movie is set to premiere on April 30, 2027.

Bo Bragason has been cast as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link in the film. Wes Ball, known for directing "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," is at the helm. Ball has expressed aspirations to imbue the adaptation with the visual aesthetics of Studio Ghibli while maintaining a grounded sense of realism within its fantasy adventure setting.

Filming for The Legend of Zelda movie commenced in November 2025 in New Zealand, a location notable for being the setting for Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Production concluded in April 2026. This marks Nintendo's first live-action film adaptation since the 1993 "Super Mario Bros." movie.
