Australian actor Uli Latukefu, known for his role in the television series Young Rock, is reportedly in line to play the formidable villain Ganondorf in Sony Pictures and Nintendo's live-action The Legend of Zelda movie. This casting rumor comes from veteran Hollywood reporter Kyle Buchanan of The New York Times, who stated he has been hearing about Latukefu potentially taking on the role, though an official confirmation from the studios is still pending. Deadline has also reported on this potential casting, adding that Latukefu may have entered into a multi-film agreement.
While Ganondorf's casting remains unconfirmed, other key roles have reportedly been filled. Bo Bragason is said to be portraying Princess Zelda, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth is cast as Link. Leaked set photos have also led to speculation that Dichen Lachman, an actor from the series Severance, might be playing Impa.
The live-action The Legend of Zelda film is slated for a theatrical release on April 30, 2027. The project is being directed by Wes Ball, who previously helmed The Maze Runner trilogy. Producer Shigeru Miyamoto, a central figure in Nintendo's gaming empire, has expressed enthusiasm for the film's progress, stating that the team is working diligently to bring the movie to audiences. Avi Arad, a veteran producer with ties to Marvel projects, is also attached to the film.
This cinematic adaptation is part of a growing trend of video game franchises making the leap to the big screen. Meanwhile, the Legend of Zelda game series itself is set to receive a remake of the beloved Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year.
