The upcoming art book, The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, reveals surprising inspirations behind the film, including a 1990s adaptation of Lord of the Flies. The Droid Gotra, an independent faction of emancipated droids serving as security for the Hutt Twins, drew aesthetic influence from the film's depiction of the boys' makeshift outfits and the concept of "junker cars."

Concept artist Brian Matyas described the fusion of droid elements with tribal and low-tech motifs, as well as mismatched droid parts, as creating a striking visual. "Lord of the Flies meets junker cars," Matyas stated in the book. This unexpected influence adds a unique layer to the film's visual storytelling, blending familiar droid designs with a more rudimentary, scavenged appearance.

Beyond the inspiration for the Droid Gotra, the art book also features concept art of Din Djarin's intense battle with a massive albino Dragonsnake beneath the Hutt Twins' chamber on Nal Hutta. The artwork reportedly captures the creature's formidable scale and menace.

The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, by Phillip Szostak, is set to be released on November 3, 2026. The book is expected to offer a comprehensive behind-the-scenes look at the film's production, including concept art, sketches, and interviews with the cast and crew.
