Christopher Nolan's latest film, The Odyssey, has officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office in just three weeks. This achievement marks the first time one of Nolan's films has reached this financial milestone in over 14 years, since The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.

The film has earned $429.65 million domestically and $578.8 million internationally, bringing its current total to $1.008 billion. It is now on track to surpass The Dark Knight Rises' all-time gross of $1.08 billion, potentially becoming Nolan's highest-grossing picture to date.

IMAX screenings have significantly contributed to the film's success, accounting for $257 million of the total ticket sales. Nolan's decision to film the entire movie in IMAX format has been a key factor in drawing audiences to theaters, and the film is poised to become IMAX's biggest release in history.

The Odyssey joins a growing list of films in 2026 to achieve $1 billion in earnings. Earlier this year, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Toy Story 5 demonstrated the power of animation at the box office, while Spider-Man: Brand New Day and the music biopic Michael also reached this financial threshold.

Opening to $264 million, The Odyssey experienced a remarkably small drop of only 19% in its second week. As it heads into its fourth weekend, the film shows no signs of slowing its box office momentum.

While audiences have responded enthusiastically to the film's adaptation of the ancient story, not all reception has been positive. Greek translator Emily Wilson has publicly critiqued the film, releasing a scathing review shortly after its premiere and issuing a second critique recently.
