The Sopranos, the iconic HBO series that concluded in 2007 after six seasons, is set to receive a comprehensive 4K Ultra HD remaster. This new limited-edition release, dubbed "The Sopranos: The Complete Series – Premium Limited Edition," will encompass all 86 episodes and is scheduled for release on December 8.
The 4K collection will span 28 discs and includes a wealth of bonus features, both from previous DVD releases and a newly produced segment. Among the additions is a two-part documentary titled "Wise Guy: David Chase and The Sopranos," directed by Alex Gibney, which offers an in-depth look at the series' creator and writer. Existing bonus materials and audio commentaries for multiple episodes with key creative personnel are also part of the package.
Details on the packaging suggest a hardcover lay-flat book featuring cast imagery, housed within a box that may display a dramatic image of Tony Soprano. The set is currently available for preorder on Gruv, an online retailer owned by Universal and Warner Bros, with a listed price of $149.99. The listing notes that artwork is subject to change.
It remains unclear if HBO will offer a standard edition of the 4K remaster or if it will be made available for streaming on HBO Max. While HBO Max does offer a premium tier for 4K streaming, the physical media release guarantees a specific level of visual and audio quality. For those not prioritizing the 4K resolution, a standard DVD version of the complete series is available at a lower price point.
