Tom Hiddleston is returning to the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, this time not as the Marvel character Loki but as the star of a new National Geographic docuseries. The three-part series, titled "Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston," delves into the lives of potential survivors of Mount Vesuvius's catastrophic eruption in 79 AD.

The series aims to challenge the traditional narrative that Pompeii's inhabitants had no forewarning of the disaster. Subsequent episodes will explore potential naval rescue efforts and the challenges faced by those who managed to escape the volcanic destruction. Hiddleston's fascination with Pompeii dates back to his teenage years, a fascination that influenced his decision to suggest the city as a setting for an episode in the Marvel series "Loki."

Hiddleston was inspired to embark on this project by the success of similar National Geographic series produced by his on-screen Marvel counterpart, Chris Hemsworth. He noted that working on non-fiction projects offers a unique opportunity for an actor to expand their range and curiosity. Producer Kevin R. Wright, who also worked on "Loki," commented on the collaborative spirit, stating that the team found enjoyment in using "Loki" as a point of connection for the docuseries.

"Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston" is now available on Disney+ and Hulu. Hiddleston is also slated to reprise his role as Loki in "Avengers: Doomsday," scheduled for release in December.
