The highly anticipated second season of Marvel's animated series X-Men '97 is set to premiere on Disney+ on July 1, with the first three episodes dropping on launch day. The streaming service announced the release schedule and unveiled the titles for all nine episodes of the new season.
The season picks up immediately after the dramatic cliffhanger of the first season, which saw the X-Men scattered across time. Season two will feature Apocalypse as its primary antagonist. Early access to the first four episodes reveals that Professor X, Magneto, Rogue, Beast, and Nightcrawler will encounter Apocalypse in 3000 BC Egypt, while Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Storm, and Morph will face him in 3960 AD, where he has established a tyrannical rule. Polaris, Magneto's daughter, and an adult Cable are also expected to appear.
The episode titles offer further hints about the season's plot. "Days of Past Future" appears to be a direct nod to the iconic "Days of Future Past" storyline. "Rise of Apocalypse" is lifted from a 1996 comic book limited series detailing the character's origin. "Strange Land, Savage Heart" echoes a storyline from the original X-Men: The Animated Series. The inclusion of "Weapon X" in an episode title suggests a focus on Wolverine's past, and "Danger.exe" points to an appearance by the sentient Danger Room construct. "The Dead Man's Hand" seems to be a reference to Gambit, who was presumed dead at the end of season one, hinting at his potential return.
X-Men '97 season two is scheduled to release its episodes weekly on Disney+ starting July 1.
