IO Interactive has announced that its James Bond video game, 007 First Light, has achieved 4 million sales within its first three months of release. This significant milestone comes at a time of transition for the James Bond gaming franchise, as Amazon Games is slated to publish any future installments.

Despite the external uncertainty, IO Interactive plans to continue supporting First Light with post-launch content. Updates will include a New Game+ mode, a new mission featuring pirate king Bawma, additional Tac Sim challenges, new weapons and cosmetics, and a photo mode.

The future of the First Light franchise beyond its current planned content is not yet clear. The game was conceived as the first part of a potential trilogy, but any subsequent titles will require publication by Amazon Games. IO Interactive self-published First Light, similar to its approach with Hitman 3, which allowed for greater creative control and a larger share of project revenue. This arrangement, however, was established when Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and EON Productions controlled the Bond gaming rights. The extent of Amazon's involvement and potential influence on future game content, especially in relation to its own film division, remains to be seen.

Reviewers have lauded 007 First Light, with IGN awarding it a 9/10 and describing it as "obsessed with bringing the Bond fantasy to life in a way no one has ever managed before," calling it "the best Bond game I’ve ever played."

Separately, IO Interactive recently scaled back development on its codenamed fantasy RPG, Project Dragon, which had received partial funding from Xbox. This decision appears to be influenced by broader industry shifts, including Microsoft's workforce reductions and restructuring of external partnerships.

007 First Light is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version still planned.
