Animal Crossing: New Horizons has achieved a major sales milestone, surpassing 50 million copies sold worldwide. Nintendo disclosed the latest sales figures in its recent earnings report, confirming that the game had sold 50.29 million units as of June 30.

This latest figure represents an increase of 380,000 units sold in the approximately 90 days prior to the reporting period, as the game stood at 49.91 million units sold through March 31, 2026. New Horizons is now the second best-selling game on the Nintendo Switch, trailing only Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which has sold 78.53 million units. Both titles have likely benefited from being included in hardware bundles, contributing to their impressive sales figures.

With over 50 million units sold, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now recognized as one of the best-selling video games in history, ranking as the 10th highest-selling game of all time. The game's release in early 2020, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, coincided with widespread lockdowns. Many players found solace in its calming atmosphere and wholesome gameplay during that period.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is playable on the upcoming Switch 2 console through backward compatibility. Additionally, a dedicated Switch 2 edition of the game was released in January 2026, offering existing owners an upgrade path for $5.
