Arc Raiders has implemented a significant matchmaking update, addressing player feedback by tracking and adapting to distinct playstyles based on squad size. This new system aims to resolve the issue of players being placed in lobbies that do not align with their preferred way of playing, whether they are engaging in cooperative missions or competitive PvP.

Previously, a player's matchmaking preferences could become muddled if they switched between playing solo, in a duo, or in a trio. For instance, a player who typically enjoyed cooperative, quest-focused solo rounds might find themselves in more aggressive, PvP-oriented lobbies when playing with friends in a trio, and vice versa. This inconsistency required the matchmaking system to readjust over time, which could be frustrating for players who frequently changed their squad composition or playstyle.

The latest update separates these preferences. According to the patch notes, the game now tracks playstyle independently for Solo, Duo, and Trio rounds. This means a player can transition seamlessly between different modes of play. For example, someone who enjoys picking plants and completing quests in solo sessions can switch to adrenaline-fueled PvP trio games if that is their preferred style for that squad size, without impacting their matchmaking for other configurations. This change ensures that players are more likely to be matched with others who share similar intentions for that specific group size. This adjustment is a response to player requests and follows a matchmaking survey conducted by Embark Studios in May. The developers have been actively refining Arc Raiders since its initial launch, with this update being highlighted as a key improvement for the player experience. The ability to maintain distinct preferences for solo, duo, and trio gameplay is expected to encourage players to return to the game and facilitate more enjoyable sessions with friends who may have differing playstyle preferences.
