Ubisoft has released the final major update for Assassin's Creed Shadows, introducing a new story mission, an endgame challenge mode, and crossover content with the upcoming Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced.

The update, which went live on June 16th, includes a story mission titled "Black Tides." In this mission, two high-ranking Templars arrive in Japan, posing a final threat to the game's dual protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke. Alongside this narrative conclusion, a new endgame challenge mode called "Domains" has been added. This mode presents players with difficult Animus arenas designed to encourage experimentation with different loadouts and strategies.

Players who engage with the new content will also unlock unique gear. Some items, like a hatchet resembling one from Assassin's Creed III, are exclusive to Shadows. However, the update also features a crossover with Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced. Progressing through rewards in Shadows will unlock Japan-themed gear, including ninja and samurai outfits, that can be used in Black Flag Resynced when it releases on July 9th. Conversely, some rewards from Shadows will also be available in Black Flag Resynced.

The update also adds an unlockable outfit for Assassin's Creed Shadows based on Edward Kenway's pirate attire from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. This crossover content arrives as Ubisoft shifts focus towards Black Flag Resynced, which is set to launch next month. The release of this final update for Shadows follows a period of significant restructuring and studio closures within Ubisoft, including the reported closure of its Winnipeg and Belgrade studios and restructuring of Ubisoft Barcelona.
