Larian Studios' acclaimed RPG, Baldur's Gate 3, has introduced Xbox Play Anywhere support, a feature that enables players who own the game digitally on Xbox consoles to also access and play it on Windows PCs and supported handheld devices through the Xbox app. This functionality was a point of anticipation for Xbox players since a previous accidental listing hinted at its arrival.
The Xbox Play Anywhere program is Microsoft's cross-buy initiative, which allows a single digital purchase to grant access across both Xbox and PC platforms. Crucially, it ensures that game progress, cloud saves, and Xbox achievements are synchronized across all linked devices. This means players can seamlessly switch between their Xbox console and PC, or even a handheld like the ROG Xbox Ally X, without losing any progress.
The rollout of this feature coincides with a celebratory sale for the game's third anniversary. Baldur's Gate 3 is currently available at a 30% discount across multiple platforms, presenting an opportune moment for newcomers to experience the award-winning title.
Expanding the Baldur's Gate Universe
While Larian Studios has concluded its development on Baldur's Gate 3 and shifted focus to its next project, the universe continues to expand through third-party content. Wizards of the Coast announced earlier this year that a prequel novel, Baldur's Gate 3: Astarion, penned by T. Kingfisher, will delve into the vampire spawn's past before the events of the game. Separately, Dark Horse is producing a comic series based on the franchise, though Larian has clarified it is not involved in this project. Details regarding the comic remain limited.
Further expanding the franchise's reach, HBO revealed plans for a Baldur's Gate television series. Co-created by Craig Mazin, known for Chernobyl and The Last of Us, the series aims to continue the narrative beyond the events of the game. However, specific details concerning casting, production timelines, or a release window have yet to be shared by HBO and Hasbro.
