Even three years after its initial release, Larian Studios' Baldur's Gate 3 is still yielding discoveries, thanks to its dedicated player base. Recent finds include a secret voice line for a mind flayer that should not be accessible under normal gameplay conditions, as well as the restoration of cut content from the game's early access period through extensive modding efforts.

A Redditor known as ImpressiveLie7365 utilized mods to transform their character into a mind flayer from the game's outset. This unusual approach revealed a line of dialogue from the ship's mind flayer that specifically addresses this improbable scenario. The existence of this line has led to speculation that Baldur's Gate 3 may have once featured a temporary mind flayer companion during its early access phase, who could have triggered this particular dialogue.

Beyond hidden dialogue, modders have also been instrumental in reviving elements of the game that were present in early access but removed before the full launch. One significant restoration is that of Daisy, the original dream visitor who served as a precursor to the game's current Guardian character. Modder HyperspaceTowel, through a mod titled Early Access Dream Visitor Restored, has brought back Daisy's four original dream sequences, which replace the Guardian's two. This mod also introduces new companion reactions and specific Illithid powers tied to Daisy's scrapped storyline. Players are advised to start a new save file to fully experience these restored elements.

HyperspaceTowel's work extends to other cut content as well. Another mod, Early Access Scenes Restored, aims to reintegrate numerous conversations and dialogue lines that vanished prior to Baldur's Gate 3's official release. This project has already brought back over 100 conversations and 1,000 lines of dialogue, featuring characters such as Astarion, Gale, Lae'zel, and Shadowheart. These restored scenes offer glimpses into character interactions that were either altered or entirely removed, including an argument over a dish cooked by Gale, character reactions to grave robbing, and an alternate version of Shadowheart's ultimatum.

These discoveries highlight Larian Studios' practice of archiving, rather than deleting, development assets. Even years after the game's launch, players continue to delve into Baldur's Gate 3's files, unearthing and restoring content, thereby enriching the game's existing experience.
