Battlefield 6 is set to reintroduce a fan-favorite game mode with its Season 4 update, which also includes a crossover with the Top Gun franchise. The update, scheduled for July 21, will bring back naval combat with the introduction of Tsuru Reef, the game's largest map to date, along with new boats and weaponry.
The second phase of Season 4, arriving on August 18, will feature a modernized version of the classic Battlefield map Wake Island, complete with its iconic aircraft carrier spawns and beach assault points. Concurrently, a Top Gun crossover event will introduce a new two-seater jet styled after the film's aircraft and revive a mode originally seen in 2006's Battlefield 2142.
This new mode, titled Top Gun: Carrier Strike, is inspired by Battlefield 4's Carrier Assault, which itself was based on Battlefield 2142's Titan mode. The objective is for two teams to sink the opposing force's aircraft carrier. Players will capture flags to launch missile strikes against the enemy carrier, with the ultimate goal of boarding and capturing it. While the original games featured an on-foot boarding phase, Battlefield Studios has indicated that Carrier Strike has been reworked for Battlefield 6, though specific changes to this aspect remain unclear.
Additionally, a jets-only mission called Top Gun: Fighter Sweep will be available on a modified Tsuru Reef map. These jets will also be accessible in jet-only servers within the game's Portal mode.
Battlefield's Top Gun-themed content is slated to launch in August, but the return of naval warfare next week is anticipated to be a significant addition for players. The crossover features voice lines from Top Gun: Maverick actors, including Miles Teller, who expressed his honor in participating in the long-running Battlefield franchise.
