Battlefield 6 is set to receive a significant crossover event with Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick, coinciding with the launch of the game's largest seasonal update to date. This collaboration will integrate elements from the critically acclaimed film into both the main Battlefield 6 experience and its standalone battle royale component, Battlefield REDSEC.
The partnership between EA and Paramount Games Studio will bring iconic aircraft such as the F-18/Super Hornet and F-14 Tomcat into the game. Players can also expect to encounter characters from Top Gun: Maverick, with Miles Teller returning as Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, Lewis Pullman as Lt. Robert “Bob” Floyd, and Charles Parnell as Adm. Solomon “Warlock” Bates, all reprising their roles with full voice acting. The update will also feature Top Gun-inspired cosmetic items.
Miles Teller expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “It’s a huge honor to appear in a long-running franchise like Battlefield with its millions of fans, and talented people working on it. And with Top Gun, it’s like two titans meeting.”
A new game mode, Carrier Strike, will pit naval, air, and ground forces against each other in a bid to destroy the enemy aircraft carrier, aiming to blend the distinct characteristics of both Battlefield and Top Gun. This update, Season 4: Pacific Front, also introduces the Tsuru Reef map, designed to accommodate naval combat. Complementing the aerial action, new naval vehicles such as the RCB-90 Patrol Boat and the 7.7m NSW RHIB transport barge will be added.
Weaponry is also being expanded with the introduction of the BROD 3 carbine for close-quarters engagements, the EF88 bullpup assault rifle for mid- to long-range combat, and the VSSM, a suppressed Designated Marksman Rifle designed for stealth. Various weapon attachments will also be available. For Battlefield REDSEC, the update will include a new ranked mode. Extensive balance changes affecting player movement, vehicles, and other gameplay elements are also part of the Season 4 rollout.
Battlefield 6, which launched in October 2025, was initially met with a positive reception, largely lauded for its return to gameplay mechanics reminiscent of Battlefield 3 and 4. It achieved the series’ biggest launch, selling over seven million copies within its first three days. However, player sentiment has fluctuated, with initial Steam reviews showing a dip from a high of 76% approval to a “Mixed” 67% score, attributed to issues with the Battle Pass and controversial balance adjustments. Some players also expressed dissatisfaction with the map sizes and movement mechanics perceived as too similar to Call of Duty. It remains to be seen if this substantial update will draw lapsed players back to the game.
