Bethesda Game Studios has affirmed its dedication to Starfield, assuring players that the sci-fi role-playing game will receive further content and ongoing support. In an update detailing the studio's future projects, Bethesda stated that Starfield remains a "crucial part of our future" and that new content is slated for release next year, including "new Starborn content."

As the game enters its third year since its September 2023 launch, Bethesda plans to expand the game's universe with additional stories and targeted gameplay enhancements. The studio also highlighted the active player base, reporting that Starfield has been played by 17 million individuals across Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Players have collectively logged nearly one billion hours in the game to date. The game was available day one on Xbox Game Pass, contributing to its initial player count.

Bethesda also emphasized its commitment to the Starfield Creation Kit, noting that over 40% of players currently customize their experiences through this feature. The studio intends to continue investing in creators and providing players with more avenues to personalize their gameplay.

This commitment to Starfield's future comes amidst broader changes within Microsoft's gaming division, including significant layoffs. While the studio's established franchises like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls boast impressive sales figures—Fallout 4 has sold 35 million copies and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has sold 65 million—Bethesda is promising continued investment in Starfield's development. The studio also confirmed it is in pre-production for Fallout 5 and working on remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, alongside a new Fallout title from Obsidian Entertainment.
