Bethesda Game Studios has shared an update on the future of its major franchises, including Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Starfield, following recent layoffs impacting Xbox and its studios. The studio confirmed that Fallout 5 is in pre-production, though it will not be the primary focus.
Fallout Updates
While Fallout 5 is officially confirmed to be in pre-production, Bethesda stated that The Elder Scrolls 6 remains the studio's top priority, suggesting a distant release for the next mainline Fallout title. In the interim, fans can anticipate new content for Fallout 76, with an expansion titled Raven Rock set to launch next year as a prequel to Fallout 3. Furthermore, remasters of both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in development, building on the success of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. Bethesda also acknowledged an ongoing collaboration with Obsidian Entertainment on a new, unspecified Fallout project.
The Elder Scrolls Future
The Elder Scrolls franchise continues to be Bethesda's flagship, with Skyrim having sold over 65 million copies. The development of The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently the main project for the majority of the studio's team, although no release timeline has been provided. Recent reports indicate that the game is still at least two years away from release. Bethesda also noted that ZeniMax Online Studios will continue to support The Elder Scrolls Online, working closely with Bethesda Game Studios to align on the franchise's direction. The Elder Scrolls Online recently launched its Season One on July 8, with further content planned for the future.
Starfield's Continued Development
Bethesda confirmed that Starfield remains a significant part of its future, having been played by over 17 million individuals. The studio plans to deliver more content to the game, including new stories, gameplay enhancements, and additional updates. A substantial content release focused on new Starborn content is slated for 2027.
