Blizzard Entertainment has officially revealed that a new StarCraft game is in development, an open-world shooter also simply titled StarCraft. However, players will need considerable patience, as the game is not expected to launch until 2030.
The reveal showcased a cinematic featuring recruits undergoing military training before deploying into a chaotic combat zone against the Swarm. The scene followed a character named Holt, whose mission ends grimly when his weapon jams and he is overwhelmed, with the cinematic concluding by implying his death. Details beyond this cinematic and the game's title remain scarce, with no gameplay footage or further mechanical information shared at this time.
This marks the first new entry in the StarCraft series since StarCraft: Remastered, released in 2017. The franchise's last completely new installment, StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty, launched in 2010.
The existence of a StarCraft shooter has been the subject of rumors for several years. These discussions stemmed from the canceled Ares project in 2019 and more recently from a 2024 job listing that hinted at an open-world shooter led by Dan Hay, a former director at Ubisoft known for his work on Far Cry 5.
