Blizzard is adopting a strategy of early reveals for major upcoming titles like Diablo 5 and a new StarCraft, with release windows set for spring 2029 and 2030, respectively. According to Blizzard President Johanna Faries, this approach is intended to communicate confidence in the studio's biggest future projects and assure players of their commitment to delivering on promised timelines.

"We want to convey confidence in some of our biggest bets coming forward," Faries stated in an interview with Bloomberg. "We’re a Blizzard that’s going to ship, and ship big, and ship on time, and all hands on deck to set those projects up for success." This marks a departure from past practices, where long lead times and development challenges, such as those experienced with Diablo 4's announcement in 2019 and its eventual 2023 release, were common.

The company's new outlook may align with a broader strategy under Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, who is reportedly encouraging studios to prioritize consistent delivery of major sequels and spin-offs. This approach is reminiscent of the yearly release schedule maintained by the Call of Duty franchise, which utilizes multiple development studios working in tandem.

Despite these ambitious plans, Blizzard faces the broader context of recent Xbox layoffs, which have impacted approximately 1,600 employees. Faries emphasized that protecting Blizzard's unique creative and cultural identity remains her top priority. "Preserving that has been my ultimate focus," she said, referring to "the unique special sauce that is Blizzard both culturally and creatively." She expressed optimism that successful performance for Microsoft would be a mutually beneficial outcome.
