Developer Rebel Wolves has begun the process of developing a sequel to its recently released vampire RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, with studio narrative director Jakub Szamalek posting a call for a lead writer. The announcement, made on LinkedIn, signals the studio's intent to move forward with the Dawnwalker series.

The role requires a candidate with a minimum of six years of experience in game writing or narrative design, a proven track record of excellence, and team management capabilities. The studio is seeking an individual who can contribute significantly to "craft[ing] the next chapter in the Dawnwalker saga."

While the first game has only recently launched, Rebel Wolves appears eager to establish the groundwork for future installments. The game's "glimpse into the future" trailer, which plays at the end of the current title, hints at a continuing narrative for the protagonist, Coen. The trailer's description suggests Coen's story will span centuries and take him to diverse locations worldwide, introducing new powers, dilemmas, and ancient secrets.

The endings of The Blood of Dawnwalker support this direction, setting Coen on a path away from his initial setting of Vale Sangora. This suggests a series-spanning plot that may draw parallels to the long-running conflicts seen in franchises like Assassin's Creed, rather than a repeating thematic structure like that of The Witcher.

One perspective on the future of the series suggests a preference for settings that align with the medieval fantasy elements that made the first game appealing. Rather than a modern-day setting, which might diminish the mystique of vampire abilities, a continued focus on historical periods is desired. Potential settings could include major European cities such as Budapest, Belgrade, or Kraków, which are geographically proximate to the Carpathian Mountains region of the first game, allowing for continued exploration of similar folklore. Alternatively, venturing further west or east into Europe or Asia could offer opportunities to incorporate different historical events and cultures. The late Middle Ages, a period rich with crises like the Black Death featured in the first game, are also seen as fertile ground for narrative development.

There is also interest in exploring earlier historical periods. While The Blood of Dawnwalker touches upon ancient history through a character's backstory, there remains significant narrative potential in the ancient or early Middle Ages for future installments. The prospect of a new writer helping to shape these future narratives is met with anticipation.
