Fantasy author Brandon Sanderson has announced that work has officially begun on the sixth installment of The Stormlight Archive series. Sanderson shared this update, along with progress on the Mistborn film adaptation, in his recent weekly update video.
Sanderson has started outlining Stormlight Archive 6. While the actual writing is not scheduled to begin until January 2028, he plans to spend all of 2027 outlining this book and the four that will follow it. This extensive planning period is intended to allow him to efficiently write the latter half of the series. His primary goal for 2027, however, is to write Ghostbloods 2 and 3.
This news follows Sanderson's recent announcement of an ambitious release schedule for the remaining books in The Stormlight Archive. He anticipates that books six through ten, the second half of the series, will release approximately every two to three years, beginning around 2031.
Mistborn Film Adaptation Update
In addition to his work on The Stormlight Archive, Sanderson is also involved in adapting his Cosmere universe for Apple. While a television series based on The Stormlight Archive is confirmed, his current focus is on the film adaptation of the first Mistborn trilogy. Sanderson is writing the script himself and reported that the second draft is currently 35% complete. This represents a 10% increase from the previous week's update, indicating steady progress on the screenplay.
