A pair of brothers have unearthed an extraordinary collection of Pokémon trading cards, including numerous sealed booster packs and valuable holographic cards, nearly three decades after they were initially purchased. The discovery was made while searching their grandmother's home after she repeatedly mentioned having a substantial stash of Pokémon cards stored away.

Initially, the brothers were not particularly invested in finding the cards, with one of them recalling a preference for Yu-Gi-Oh during their childhood. However, their grandmother's persistence led them to search her house. Their initial search yielded Pokémon toys and accessories, but their grandmother insisted the true collection remained undiscovered. She specifically recalled purchasing unopened packs and having a few Charizard cards put aside for them.

A more thorough search revealed the remarkable hoard: dozens of sealed packs and unopened themed decks from early first-edition sets such as Fossil, Jungle, and Team Rocket. Many of these items were found shrink-wrapped and some still bore original price tags, indicating they were purchased for a fraction of their current value.

Among the findings was a binder containing a variety of classic cards, many featuring a coveted holofoil finish. These included cards of popular Pokémon like Pikachu, Mew, and Mewtwo. The grandmother's recollection proved accurate as three shiny Charizard cards were also found, including a shadowless Charizard that is potentially worth a five-figure sum. Individual booster boxes from this collection have previously sold for between $15,000 and $30,000.

Describing the find as something that "almost sounded like fan fiction," one of the brothers shared their experience on Reddit. The search for valuable collectibles is not entirely over, as the grandmother believes she still possesses some older Pokémon tins. The brothers have also found other trading card games and comic books from the era. They are taking steps to preserve the discovered cards using sleeves and card holders while they continue to assess the collection's overall worth. A YouTube channel has been created to document their journey, though no videos have been uploaded yet.

Despite the significant potential monetary value, the brothers state their primary motivation was spending time with their grandmother. They have also begun opening some of the discovered boxes, indicating they do not view the find solely as a financial opportunity.
