Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone is set to launch on November 6, bringing a full integration of the new title into the battle royale experience. This update will replace Black Ops 7's existing maps with two new Modern Warfare-themed environments and introduce significant overhauls to Warzone's movement mechanics, new gameplay features, and an operator-skin toggle.
The season also introduces a new battle pass, additional multiplayer maps and modes, and new content for DMZ. Four new DLC weapons will be available to unlock for both Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone. This update coincides with the launch of Warzone on the Nintendo Switch 2.
With the start of Season 1, all players will be reset to player level one, with the option to level up and prestige across multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone. Modern Warfare 4's operators, weapons, attachments, and camos will be accessible in the battle royale. However, older weapons from the previous three Call of Duty titles will be designated as "legacy" weapons and will not be customizable in the Gunsmith.
Black Ops 7's omnimovement system is being removed, and the battle royale will adopt Modern Warfare 4's more scaled-back movement, featuring fluid sliding and mantling.
Warzone's map rotation will feature the new Hajin map for standard battle royale and the Zodiac map for Resurgence. Both maps share points of interest with their DMZ counterparts and will include dynamic weather effects. The battle royale version of Hajin will incorporate Warzone's 1v1 Gulag arena with two distinct layouts. Verdansk and Rebirth Island are slated to return later in the season, rotating with other maps, while Black Ops 7's Avalon and Fortune's Keep will not return.
New gameplay additions include the Zipline Launcher, a deployable device for traversing terrain, and the Grabber Drone, a rare item capable of picking up loot, environmental objects, and even downed operators. Interactive objects like explosive fuel barrels, dumpsters, and construction equipment will also be added to the maps, allowing for strategic placement for cover or blocking pathways.
Further gameplay adjustments include the availability of Tactical Sprint for all operators without a perk, though its duration is slightly reduced. Players will also be able to drag allies while reviving them, pulling them out of immediate danger. The update will also feature additional weapon balance tuning and improvements to visibility and footstep audio across all maps. Specific details on weapon tuning and other adjustments are expected in the Season 1 patch notes.
As previously announced, Warzone will no longer be playable on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One due to Modern Warfare 4's move to current-generation hardware. Player progression will be retained for those returning to a supported platform with the same linked Activision account.
The operator-skin toggle feature will allow players to filter out "wacky" or cel-shaded skins, replacing them with Modern Warfare 4 operators. This filter is off by default and only affects the user's individual game experience.
