Infinity Ward has released an unplanned update for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta, aiming to swiftly address player feedback. This early hotfix focuses on improving spawn mechanics, with further enhancements slated for the game's second beta weekend.

The current update is live across all game modes except Hardpoint, though Infinity Ward has confirmed that a fix for this mode will also be implemented during the second weekend. The developer acknowledged the update's timing via its official X account, stating, "We were supposed to be done with updates today…Supposed to be. We pushed out an early piece of the larger spawn improvements we’re working on. It’s live now across all modes except Hardpoint. Hardpoint changes will come in Weekend 2. Go run some matches."

Player feedback during the beta has highlighted concerns beyond spawns, including the time-to-kill (TTK) being too rapid. Infinity Ward appears to be adopting a more responsive approach to community input compared to its previous title, Modern Warfare 2 (2022). That game, despite its commercial success, became a point of contention among fans due to perceived disregard for their feedback on several key aspects.

In an interview with IGN, Joe Cecot, a representative from Infinity Ward, admitted to communication shortcomings with Modern Warfare 2 and assured players that handling of Modern Warfare 4 would differ significantly. "I think in MW2, we definitely didn't communicate as well as we should have," Cecot stated. "I think we've remedied that in crazy ways with this project. Even with the amount of stuff that I get sent to my desk to review like, 'Hey, we want to respond to this.' And then I review copy or I'm writing something, it's a huge shift. That's going to continue into live support and I think you see it at our studio head level. [Infinity Ward co-studio head] Mark Grigsby is posting, the Infinity Word account is posting, the Call of Duty account is posting, and they're all in unison posting. They're not separate from each other. I think it's really powerful and it feels really good to us."

The second beta weekend for Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to begin on Friday, August 28, at 10 AM PT. The full game is set to release on October 23, with early access to the campaign available starting October 16.
