Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to introduce a unique weapon customization feature that ties visual appearance to a specific platform. Players who pre-order a digital copy of the game across any platform will receive the Inner Circuit M4 Assault Rifle Blueprint. While this blueprint is available to all pre-ordering players, one of its variants boasts a visual effect that is exclusive to Xbox users.

This special variant transforms the M4 blueprint into a translucent green weapon, a design choice intended as a tribute to the original Xbox hardware and its iconic color. The skin also features an Xbox logo on the magazine well. However, players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 will only see a standard, translucent black version of the blueprint, even when playing in cross-play matches with Xbox players. The custom green variant will not appear for non-Xbox players in killcams.

Developers described the Inner Circuit Blueprint as taking cues from classic translucent Xbox hardware, with its transparent green finish exposing the weapon's internal systems. This design marks a departure from previous platform-specific bonuses in the Call of Duty series, which typically involved entirely exclusive items rather than variations in visual perception of the same item.

This new approach to cosmetic design also touches upon ongoing player discussions regarding weapon and character skins. Many players have expressed a desire for options to toggle off custom skins, allowing for a more grounded aesthetic without removing the visual flair for those who appreciate paid customizations. The ability to have a single cosmetic item appear differently across platforms raises new questions about how such features could be implemented and perceived by the player base.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for release on October 23rd for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
