A previously unreported AAA Star Wars action-RPG, codenamed Magellan, was in development at Echtra Games under Zynga before its cancellation around the studio’s closure in 2025. Gameplay footage and details surfaced on August 16, revealing a third-person title that leaned into a "shoot and loot" gameplay loop, according to MP1st.
Development on Magellan reportedly began in early 2021. The leaked footage showcased two distinct playable characters: a Twi'lek Jedi and a Mandalorian-esque soldier. Both characters were seen engaging stormtroopers, exploring various environments, and collecting loot. The gameplay explicitly mentioned "shoot and loot" mechanics, suggesting players could find and equip new weapons, even if playing as a Jedi who would primarily use a lightsaber.
Beyond its combat and looting systems, Magellan was also planned to support online multiplayer. Players would have been able to select different classes, such as the Jedi, and utilize their unique abilities to combat enemies like droids and troopers. The game was being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and was targeting a release on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC. Reports also indicated that the game would feature an NPC bonding system, allowing players to develop relationships with characters encountered during missions and while fighting alongside them.
The project's cancellation followed a shake-up at Zynga and Take-Two, leading to the closure of Echtra Games in 2025. This marks another addition to the list of canceled Star Wars games, which includes titles like Ragtag, Respawn's Mandalorian game, Star Wars 1313, a Darth Maul project, and Star Wars Battlefront III.
