Capcom has announced a revised release schedule for its upcoming action-adventure title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The game, which marks the return of the Onimusha series after a 20-year hiatus, will now be available on September 4, shifting from its original September 25 release date. This earlier launch applies to its planned releases on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set during the early Edo period in Kyoto. The game follows the critically acclaimed Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, which was released in 2006 and received an 8.8 out of 10 from IGN. Early impressions from a hands-on session at Summer Game Fest suggest the new entry is poised to continue the series' legacy.

A playable demo for Onimusha: Way of the Sword is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Players who complete the demo and have save data from it on their system will receive an in-game Kubi Akari charm upon purchasing the full release.

This revised release date positions Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a significant title in what has already been a strong year for Capcom, following the positive reception and strong sales of Resident Evil Requiem earlier in 2026.
