Capcom developers have shared insights into the creation of Dokyo, a key antagonist in the upcoming samurai action game Onimusha: Way of the Sword. This marks the first new installment in the Onimusha series in two decades.

During a visit to Capcom's Osaka headquarters, journalists from Game Informer had the opportunity to play an early section of the game and learn about the development process behind Dokyo and her associated underground laboratory. The developers discussed their approach to designing this "mad scientist" character and the environment she inhabits.

Capcom is preparing extensive coverage of Onimusha: Way of the Sword throughout the month. Exclusive gameplay footage and behind-the-scenes content, including developer interviews, will be released on the Game Informer YouTube channel. A dedicated coverage hub will also feature additional articles detailing various aspects of the game's development and design choices, such as the decision to feature Miyamoto Musashi as the protagonist, the reasons for choosing Kyoto as the setting, and the revival of the series in 2026 after a 20-year hiatus. Other discussions will explore the game's focus on swordplay action, the absence of minigames, the return of the Phantom Realm, and the integration of homages to previous titles in the series, as well as the removal of puzzle boxes in favor of larger environmental puzzles.
