CD Projekt Red's joint CEO, Michał Nowakowski, still feels the studio has not entirely completed its post-Cyberpunk 2077 redemption arc. He expressed that the game's difficult launch was a "heartbreaking" period for the company, as its reputation is its "biggest asset."
Despite Cyberpunk 2077's strong sales in the years since its release, Nowakowski believes there is still work to be done to fully regain the trust of players who were alienated by the initial launch issues. "I'm not 100 percent convinced we went through the full redemption arc," he stated in an interview with Edge, as reported by GamesRadar. "I'm convinced that we lost the faith of some people indefinitely, and that's a fair thing. But I do hope we will be able to make it back - if not with The Witcher 4, then with whatever comes next."
Nowakowski also clarified that CD Projekt Red does not aim to become a studio that releases games annually. While the company desires to increase its output frequency, it does not want to "flood the games market with CDPR games." The studio operates on a ten-year rolling plan but prioritizes making "really cool games" over rapid-fire releases or expanding its portfolio of intellectual properties. The company does not plan to grow in that manner, focusing instead on quality and impactful titles, potentially with The Witcher 4 serving as a significant step in rebuilding its relationship with the player base.
