CD Projekt Red joint CEO Michał Nowakowski has expressed a lack of concern regarding potential delays for next-generation consoles, even as component prices, such as RAM, continue to rise. In an interview with The Game Business, Nowakowski addressed the possibility of increased console costs impacting game sales, stating that consoles remain vital for reaching a broader, more casual audience due to their ease of use. He expressed confidence that consoles will endure market challenges.
Nowakowski emphasized that the delivery method of games is secondary to the content itself. "Content is the king. And if the content is right, people will find a way to play it," he explained. CD Projekt Red's strategy is to be present on whatever platforms players are using at the time of their releases, adapting their business models accordingly. While developers naturally desire maximum hardware power to showcase their creations, Nowakowski acknowledged the need for realism and the potential need to shelve certain ideas if next-gen hardware is significantly delayed. However, he reiterated that these potential adjustments do not cause commercial concern for the company.
Recent industry shifts, such as PlayStation's decision to cease production of physical game discs by January 2028, have fueled speculation about the long-term future of consoles. Despite these trends, CD Projekt Red maintains a belief in the continued relevance of consoles as long as there is player demand. The developer has also recently shown support for the gaming community, offering assistance to an indie developer whose equipment was stolen and ensuring physical editions for upcoming titles like The Witcher 4, even if they arrive after the proposed cutoff for physical disc production.
