CD Projekt Red has officially clarified the geographical location of Letten, the newly revealed playable region for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt expansion "Songs of the Past." This area, which serves as the homeland of the beloved bard Dandelion, is situated in the northern part of the continent. Its placement positions it geographically closer to Kovir, the rumored setting for the next main installment in The Witcher saga, than to the primary locales of The Witcher 3.

Peter Gelencser, world director for "Songs of the Past" at developer Fool's Theory, explained during a CD Projekt Red Gamescom stream that Letten lies north, roughly halfway between Kovir and Kaedwen. More specifically, he detailed that the region can be found by heading to the Gulf of Praxeda, following the Buina River east, and then turning east onto the Nimnar River. Letten is located on the southern shore of the Nimnar. While Gelencser acknowledged the difficulty in pinpointing the exact location on existing maps, he estimated it to be near Gelibol in northern Redania, not far from Blaviken, the site where Geralt acquired the "Butcher of Blaviken" moniker.

This northern placement is a significant departure from the southern Redanian and Temerian settings of much of The Witcher 3, as well as Cidaris, the rumored location for "Songs of the Past" prior to this clarification. The expansion is described as taking place in a serene, idyllic Polish countryside during spring, coinciding with the Belleteyn festival, marking the end of winter. Early gameplay footage reveals a vibrant landscape with fresh mornings and crisp light illuminating blooming vegetation, characterized by green hues and splashes of purple.

Despite its tranquil appearance, Gelencser indicated that Letten possesses a darker, unseen underbelly. The narrative of "Songs of the Past" is set to begin shortly after the events of The Witcher 3's second expansion, "Blood and Wine," where Geralt was last seen retiring to his Corvo Bianco vineyard. This suggests another adventure awaits the seasoned witcher, interrupting his presumed retirement.

Alongside the "Songs of the Past" expansion, CD Projekt Red also announced a remastered edition of The Witcher 3, promising graphical overhauls and gameplay enhancements, including combat improvements. "Songs of the Past" is slated for release next year on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Nintendo Switch 2.
