Actor Chris Evans has detailed the elaborate measures Marvel undertook to keep his return in the upcoming "Avengers: Doomsday" under wraps during filming. Speaking at Fan Expo Boston, Evans explained that the production employed a codename for his character to prevent leaks, a detail that seemingly surfaced last year.
Filming for Evans's scenes reportedly took place in London, with the actor staying in a house located an hour away from the studio. "We were in the middle of nowhere. We'd go to set, [then] home. Set, home," Evans recounted. To further obfuscate the filming, his character was referred to as "Luke Cage" within the script and on call sheets. "Even on set, if I was going to set, they'd be like [mimics speaking into a walkie talkie] 'Luke Cage is travelling,'" Evans said.
The use of "Luke Cage" as a codename aligns with reports from last summer that identified a filming location as "Luke Cage's house." At the time, it was speculated to be related to the Marvel hero, but it has now been confirmed to be Steve Rogers's residence.
Evans also noted the difficulty of maintaining this secrecy during press obligations for his film "Materialists." "It was such a locked down thing," he stated, "And y'know it was tricky because I had to do press for Materialists, and people would ask me 'Are you in [Doomsday]?' and I had to lie."
Chris Evans's involvement in "Avengers: Doomsday" was officially confirmed through early teasers for the film, which showed his return as Steve Rogers, now a father. The actor previously shared that his character is in for a "brutal" experience in the film, scheduled for release on December 16, 2026.
