The animated film Coyote vs. Acme, which was notably shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery in 2023, is slated for a physical Blu-ray release that will include unrated outtakes featuring star John Cena. Director Dave Green confirmed the news to IGN, stating that the bonus material is "not PG-rated."
Green explained that Cena, alongside co-star Will Forte, engaged in extensive improvisation on set while interacting with the Looney Tunes characters. When the cameras were allowed to keep rolling without frequent cuts, minutes of unrated footage were captured. "The camera would keep rolling and he would just love to entertain a room of background actors and make everyone laugh," Green said. "When you don’t call ‘cut,’ there is minutes and minutes of stuff that is not PG-Rated."
The director assured that these outtakes would indeed be featured on the Blu-ray release, a positive development for those who value physical media. This comes at a time when physical media is becoming increasingly scarce, exemplified by Sony's planned discontinuation of physical game disc production starting January 2028. While some major titles are still receiving physical releases, others, like Grand Theft Auto 6, are confirmed for digital download only.
Coyote vs. Acme is scheduled to premiere in theaters on August 28, 2026. The film's upcoming physical release, complete with R-rated special features, offers audiences a tangible way to experience the movie and its behind-the-scenes antics, even after its initial shelving due to a substantial tax write-off.
