Sega has opened sign-ups for a closed multiplayer network test for Crazy Taxi: World Tour, scheduled to run from September 11 to September 13 in the United States. Those interested in participating must register on the game's official website by August 31. The test will be accessible on all platforms announced for the title: Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5, though Sega has indicated that certain platforms may have a limited number of available slots.

This announcement coincides with the release of a new trailer showcasing the game's West Coast setting. This location is a familiar sight for fans of the franchise, but it represents just one of the many playable areas planned for "World Tour." The game's title suggests a global scope, though Sega has yet to detail additional locations.

Crazy Taxi: World Tour was initially revealed in June during the Xbox Games Showcase, with its debut trailer featuring The Offspring's 'All I Want,' a song closely associated with the original game. Shortly after its announcement, it was confirmed that generative AI was used in the game's development. A statement on the game's Steam page mentioned the use of AI as a support tool to "provide better content to our users and enable developers to focus on creative tasks." In response to inquiries, Sega clarified that generative AI was employed for the creation of background assets. Franchise creator Kenji Kanno has since commented on the studio's approach, stating that AI was used for idea generation and as a reference, with all in-game assets ultimately being developed by human artists.

World Tour marks the first new mainline entry in the Crazy Taxi series since 2002's Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller. The game is currently slated for a 2027 release.
