Pearl Abyss has officially announced that its ambitious open-world action game, Crimson Desert, is slated for release on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. The developer has provided a target release window between January and June 2027 in its latest financial briefing. This confirmation follows earlier discussions about a potential console expansion for the highly successful title. "In the case of Switch 2, the game has reached a playable baseline, and we are currently conducting technical reviews regarding performance optimization and quality standard compliance, targeting a release in the first half of next year," the briefing stated.
Crimson Desert has already achieved significant commercial success, selling over 4 million copies across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game generated over $180 million earlier this year and has been among the best-selling titles in the United States for 2026. The developer noted that the Switch 2 is the sole platform for future expansion currently planned, with no mobile version in development.
The transition of Crimson Desert to the hybrid Switch 2 system is anticipated with interest, given the game's expansive sandbox environments. Pearl Abyss is also actively researching the technical and gameplay feasibility of introducing multiplayer features. However, the company acknowledges that integrating multiplayer is a complex undertaking.
