Pearl Abyss has announced that Crimson Desert will receive downloadable content (DLC) this year, with further details to be revealed in the third quarter of 2026. This comes after the game achieved significant sales success, selling approximately 2.11 million copies in the first half of 2026. Digital sales accounted for 1.72 million of these copies, with physical sales making up the remaining 0.39 million.
The strong performance generated an operating revenue of approximately $284.5 million USD (₩406.2 billion) for Pearl Abyss in the first and second quarters of 2026. North America and Europe were identified as the primary markets driving these sales, contributing over 75% of the profit, though the game also maintains popularity in Pearl Abyss's home market of South Korea.
This revenue figure includes contributions from the studio's existing MMO, Black Desert Online, but the success of Crimson Desert has clearly prompted Pearl Abyss to prioritize its ongoing development. The company's earnings letter outlines a strategy for long-term success that includes the upcoming DLC, alongside potential adjustments to pricing and platform expansion.
The DLC is currently in development, with Pearl Abyss aiming for a release within the current year. Specifics regarding its content, pricing, and exact launch date are expected to be officially announced by the end of September. This accelerated timeline for new content indicates a rapid post-launch support strategy from the developer, who has been consistently adding new features and updates, such as new mounts and a variety of smaller in-game additions, since the game's release.
